Rickita is 27 going on 18-45. She loves movies and dinners. She loves music. She loves HGTV. She loves to nap. She loves being alone. She loves the company of children and their genuine enthusiasm and sense of discovery. She loves having no clue. She loves text messaging. She loves fashion (she's secretly addicted to it). She loves day dreaming. She loves to read anything about African/African American people and their struggles/triumphs. She's learning to heal. The only science fiction she reads is by Octavia Butler. She wants to say that she cusses like a sailor, can't sit and eat at a table properly, is a talented burper. But in interest of her current employers finding this blog, she'll stick with....she loves education.

She's a teacher.

And she thinks that if you don't read "Medical Apartheid", you're not living.

And if you don't finish Native Son, you're a loser. Kidding, because I haven't finished it yet...but I will some time next week. The point is, just read it.

MIA

No not the singer, but yeah I’ve been gone for a minute. And I really don’t have a solid reason. Well I kind of do. I’ve been having eye issues, and not having insurance (well at least for 80 more days) has really been a fucking pain in the ass.

Obama better really do something.

I’ve kicked Dakari out twice and subsequently asked him to come back. I don’t know what is going on, but if this relationship doesn’t work out I will become permanently single.

Yeah I guess I deal with extremes.

Other than that work has been great. I’ve interviewed students and accepted all of them.

I am so excited to start teaching next week. I’m also nervous. I mean being a Special Education teacher isn’t easy shit. Look at it like this—you teach a total of 240 minutes out of 480. The rest of your time is spent producing reports, calling parents, grading, researching, documenting, compiling, organizing, complaining, venting, meeting, etc.

But this shit is rewarding. I’ve had parents already tell me that they love how I interact and talk about their children. Seriously I am passionate about teaching. Kids are fucking wonderful. No matter what age.

I’m stuffed off of pizza and Dr. Pepper. I’m ending this shitty excuse for a blog entry and reading until I pass out in Dakari’s arms.

P.S.—I think it is so adorable that Dakari works out in my apartment. He does like 1,000 sit ups.

P.S.S.—Candace had a great first day teaching! I am so happy for her. I know she was nervous. It’s so cute to have her, Rion and myself teaching.

P.S.S.S.—Life’s good.
